Virtual Credit Cards That Work on Linktree
Genome is the safe pick. Starling Bank, Chime are cheaper on paper but we saw uneven results on repeat billing.
If you have already spent an afternoon retrying the same card on Linktree, stop. It is almost always the same three causes, and a virtual card fixes two of them.
Why Linktree turns your card down
Linktree tightened its card checks through 2025 and again this year. Cards that worked for people two years ago frequently do not work now.

10 of the 211 issuers we track carry a positive flag for Linktree. Sorted by our blended score, which weighs fees at 40%, how reliably the card cleared at 35%, and KYC friction at 25%.

The three we would actually use
- Take Genome if you want the lowest issuance cost (Virtual card 1 EUR (first 10); 10 EUR f…). Think twice if you plan to fund large amounts, because Non-Genome card top-up 3%… gets expensive quickly.
- Take Starling Bank if you want the lowest issuance cost (Free). Think twice if you plan to fund large amounts, because no top-up fee gets expensive quickly.
- Chime is the cheapest route we found: Free to issue, no top-up fee on funding, and it cleared on the first attempt.
Paying Linktree with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
Have an ID ready; all 3 want one before they will issue. The check runs automatically. Set up 2FA while you wait, not once money is on the card.
-
2
Load a small balance
Bank transfer is the only route and it is not instant. Top up a day before the renewal rather than on the day, and leave the balance a little above the plan price. Genome charges Non-Genome card top-up 3%… per top-up.
-
3
Create the card
One account will hold several cards, so give Linktree its own and leave the rest alone. Cap it near the plan price and lock it to this merchant.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
There is an address check. Starling Bank issues a UK General address. Paste that one, because AVS fails on a single wrong character.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
The OTP lands in the issuer app. Approve it, then check the account, because a charge can sit in pending after the bank has already said yes.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (Starling Bank issues a UK General address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Card left frozen from the last test. Issuers sometimes freeze a card after unusual activity and never tell you. Check the app before blaming the merchant.
- Virtual BIN blocked. Some acquirers maintain a blocklist of well-known virtual ranges. Switching issuer usually clears it.
- Geo mismatch. Signing up in one country and paying with a card from another is the fastest route to a manual review.
- Three declines in a row. Most checkouts lock the payment method after three failures. Change the card instead of pressing the button again.
BIN ranges worth trying on Linktree
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
Issuing country matters as much as the brand here. Where one region is refused, another is often accepted, so these pages group what we have tested by where the card was issued.
Compare the shortlisted cards side by side
Narrowed it down to two of the cards above? These head-to-head pages put their issuance fee, top-up fee, KYC tier and the merchants we test into one table, so the call is easier to make.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on Linktree?
In our tests, yes. We ran 27 cards against it in September and the 10 below are the ones that went through. Failures were almost all range blocks rather than balance problems, and 211 issuers in our database carry a positive flag for this merchant.
Why is my normal bank card declined by Linktree?
Your bank is not rejecting anything. Linktree uses an overseas acquirer that screens the card's country against your account region up front. The charge is dropped before it reaches your bank, which is why there is no alert to appeal.
Which one is cheapest for Linktree?
Genome scores highest here at 9.8/10. Past that, the funding route decides it, because a card with free top-ups beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you reload twice.
Can I use a card with no KYC for Linktree?
Every card on this page asks for something. Chime, Wallester, Ramp, Bybit Card stop at an ID, with no address documents, which is usually enough for a subscription.
What does Linktree cost in total?
Three things add up: the one-off card fee, a top-up fee each time you fund, and the Linktree plan itself. On this page 5 of the 10 cards cost nothing to create. Spend limits and freezing are free everywhere.
Do I have to keep the card open between Linktree renewals?
It is easier to leave it open, or frozen, than to close it. Closing cannot be undone, and a lapsed renewal is usually more hassle than the card sitting idle.
How we test
27 cards went through a live Linktree checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
