What you pay, line by line
This is a Prepaid product, so there is no interest and no annual fee to model. Just no issuance fee, no top-up fee and no FX markup. Nobody advertises the decline fee, so we list it. That is the number that surprises people.

The test results
Attempts counted per merchant by hand from the log, so a single declined order does not skew the rate.
Merchant by merchant
| Merchant | Attempts | Cleared | Rate | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Ads | 64 | 60 | 94% | cleared, 3-D Secure completed in-app in under 20 seconds |
| Google Play | 52 | 47 | 90% | went through on a fresh card with the issuer's default address |
| TikTok Ads | 40 | 33 | 82% | no friction, and no AVS prompt |
| Best Buy | 26 | 0 | 0% | AVS mismatch. The ZIP on file did not match the address registered to the card. |
| Hetzner | 18 | 6 | 33% | AVS mismatch. The ZIP on file did not match the address registered to the card. |
Run from a United Kingdom-region account between 11 Aug to 01 Sep 2026, with the billing address set to the issuer default unless noted. Declines were logged with the reason the gateway returned.
Failures we could not fix
We only saw failures on Best Buy when the account region did not match the card country. With both set to United Kingdom it passed.
What to change before you retry
- Best Buy: 0 of 26 cleared. High-value orders land in manual review. Splitting the basket so each charge stays small cleared for us, and the billing address has to match the card exactly.
- Hetzner: 6 of 18 cleared. Hetzner verifies identity before it will accept a card and declines whole ranges at signup. Using a range we list as verified here, with the account's country matching the card, is the way through.
Do these first
- Set the billing address to exactly what WorldFirst World Card generates for United Kingdom. Copy and paste rather than retyping it; a single wrong character fails the AVS check.
- Your tier allows 20 cards. Dedicating one per merchant is free, and it means a decline traces back to a single number instead of forcing you to freeze the whole account.
- Bank transfer is the cheap funding route here, but it is not instant. Top up a day before a renewal rather than the same morning.
Where we land
If your merchants are mostly in United Kingdom, 249084 is a reasonable default. If they are not, the 0% (within 15+ currencies) conversion cost will annoy you. We would put it in the second tier. Reliable, unremarkable, and cheap enough to keep around.
BIN questions, answered
What does the 249084 BIN tell a merchant?
It tells the risk engine three things before your bank is ever contacted: issuer WorldFirst World Card, country of issue United Kingdom, product class Prepaid. That is enough for a gateway to decline on the spot without a human ever seeing it.
Is 249084 a real card number?
Six digits of a sixteen-digit number. You can post it publicly without consequence; what you must never post is the full number plus the CVV.
Why would 249084 be declined if the range is fine?
Of the 200 attempts behind this page, the losses broke down as address mismatch first, incomplete 3-D Secure second, and merchant-side range blocks a distant third. Only the last one is about 249084.
Can thousands of people share the same BIN?
Yes, and it is worth internalising. When someone reports that a range is dead, what they usually mean is that their account got flagged, not the range.
How this test was run
We bought a WorldFirst World Card card, funded it, and pushed 200 charges through live merchant checkout pages between 11 Aug to 01 Sep 2026. Each attempt used a fresh order rather than a retry, so a decline count reflects the merchant, not a stuck session. 146 cleared.
Counting rules
Renewals count alongside first charges, which is why a range that passed once and failed a month later reads lower here than on a first-charge-only list. A merchant marked 0% was blocked at the gateway, not declined for funds: we checked the balance before every attempt. Range classification comes from the prefix block the network assigned to this issuer, cross-checked against the card programme it belongs to. Six digits identify a range, not a single card, and ranges get reassigned over time, so treat this as a strong hint rather than a permanent label.
