Virtual Card Options for Notion: What Cleared Our Charges
Start with Privacy.com, then Pikabao, Wallester. Both cleared Notion on the first attempt in our September run.
You need a card whose BIN country matches the region on your Notion account. That is the whole trick. Fees and the rest are below.
Why Notion turns your card down
Your bank is not blocking anything, the merchant is. Notion sees a card range it does not like and issues a soft decline before the authorization ever reaches your issuer. That is why you get no fraud alert and no explanation.
Cards that worked on Notion
10 of the 211 issuers we track carry a positive flag for Notion. Sorted by our blended score, which weighs fees at 40%, how reliably the card cleared at 35%, and KYC friction at 25%.

The three we would actually use
- Privacy.com is the cheapest route we found: Free to issue, no top-up fee on funding, and it cleared on the first attempt.
- Pikabao scored 9.1/10. Nothing about it is remarkable except that it kept working when others stopped.
- We had Wallester fail once, on a Sunday, then succeed on the retry. Worth knowing before you write it off.
Paying Notion with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
No ID at Pikabao, so you can be placing a charge in minutes. The others ask for one. Enable 2FA before you fund, not after.
-
2
Load a small balance
USDT and bank transfer both work. Crypto lands in minutes; a transfer is cheaper but can sit overnight. Load one month first.
-
3
Create the card
Spend thirty seconds on a spend limit and, if the issuer offers it, lock the card to one merchant. Both are free and both save a cleanup later.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
There is an address check. Privacy.com issues a US General address. Paste that one, because AVS fails on a single wrong character.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
Answer the 3-D Secure challenge, then verify the subscription is live rather than trusting the success screen. Pending charges do happen.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (Privacy.com issues a US General address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Card left frozen from the last test. Issuers sometimes freeze a card after unusual activity and never tell you. Check the app before blaming the merchant.
- Virtual BIN blocked. Some acquirers maintain a blocklist of well-known virtual ranges. Switching issuer usually clears it.
- Geo mismatch. Signing up in one country and paying with a card from another is the fastest route to a manual review.
- Three declines in a row. Most checkouts lock the payment method after three failures. Change the card instead of pressing the button again.
BIN ranges worth trying on Notion
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
The ranges above carry issuing countries of their own. If a checkout refuses one region, the same card family often exists out of another, and the country pages group what we have tested.
Compare the shortlisted cards side by side
Down to two of them? The pages below line the pair up on fees, KYC tier and shared merchant coverage. That is usually enough to settle it.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on Notion?
In our tests, yes. We ran 18 cards against it in September and the 10 below are the ones that went through. Failures were almost all range blocks rather than balance problems, and 211 issuers in our database carry a positive flag for this merchant.
Why is my normal bank card declined by Notion?
Region, mostly. Notion routes through an acquirer outside your home market, and that acquirer checks the card's issuing country against your account region first. Your bank never sees the charge, so nothing shows up as fraud on your side.
Which one is cheapest for Notion?
Privacy.com comes out on top at 9.6 out of 10. After that it depends on how you fund the card. A free top-up beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you keep it running past the first month.
Can I use a card with no KYC for Notion?
2 of the 10 cards above are listed as No KYC: Pikabao, Paycek. They work, but they decline more often and the fees are worse than an issuer that takes an ID.
What does Notion cost in total?
Budget for the plan price first, then the top-up percentage, then the card fee last. Of the 10 cards above, 7 charge nothing to issue.
Do I have to keep the card open between Notion renewals?
Only if you want the renewal to clear. Where the issuer allows it, freeze the card rather than closing it, then unfreeze a day before the renewal date. A closed card cannot be brought back.
How we test
18 cards went through a live Notion checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
