YouTube Premium Payment Declined? Virtual Card Options That Work

What we would pick

Start with Genome, then Revolut, Privacy.com. Both cleared YouTube Premium on the first attempt in our September run.

We keep a standing test account on YouTube Premium because its fraud rules change more often than most. Of 13 virtual cards tried in September, these 10 still work.

Why YouTube Premium turns your card down

A card picked at random off a marketplace will fail YouTube Premium roughly half the time. The BIN range matters more than the balance sitting on the card.

Both fixes are on your side of the transaction: match the card's country to the region your YouTube Premium account is registered in, and paste the issuer's billing address without editing it.

Cards that worked on YouTube Premium

The three we would actually use

Paying YouTube Premium with a virtual card, start to finish

  1. 1

    Open the account

All 3 ask for an ID before the first card exists. The check is automated and usually clears in minutes. Turn on 2FA before you fund anything.

  2. 2

    Load a small balance

Fund with USDT if you need it today, bank transfer if you can wait a day. One month is plenty to prove the card works. Genome charges Non-Genome card top-up 3%… per top-up.

  3. 3

    Create the card

Spend thirty seconds on a spend limit and, if the issuer offers it, lock the card to one merchant. Both are free and both save a cleanup later.

    Enter the details at checkout

There is an address check. Revolut issues a Global address. Paste that one, because AVS fails on a single wrong character.

BIN ranges worth trying on YouTube Premium

Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.

Where these cards are issued

Issuing country matters as much as the brand here. Where one region is refused, another is often accepted, so these pages group what we have tested by where the card was issued.

Compare the shortlisted cards side by side

Down to two of them? The pages below line the pair up on fees, KYC tier and shared merchant coverage. That is usually enough to settle it.

Questions we get asked

Will a virtual card actually work on YouTube Premium?

In our tests, yes. We ran 13 cards against it in September and the 10 below are the ones that went through. Failures were almost all range blocks rather than balance problems, and 100 issuers in our database carry a positive flag for this merchant.

Why is my normal bank card declined by YouTube Premium?

Your bank is not rejecting anything. YouTube Premium uses an overseas acquirer that screens the card's country against your account region up front. The charge is dropped before it reaches your bank, which is why there is no alert to appeal.

Which one is cheapest for YouTube Premium?

On our numbers Genome leads at 9.7 out of 10. The rest is down to top-up cost: waived top-up fees matter more than a lower issuance fee once you are past month one.

Can I use a card with no KYC for YouTube Premium?

One of the 10 cards above is listed as No KYC: Atlas Rewards Credit Card (US). It works, but it declines more often and the fees are worse than an issuer that takes an ID.

What does YouTube Premium cost in total?

The card fee is the smallest part. What you actually pay is a top-up charge on every reload plus the YouTube Premium plan. 8 of the 10 cards here skip the issuance fee entirely.

Do I have to keep the card open between YouTube Premium renewals?

Yes, unless you plan to re-enter the card every month. Freeze it between charges if the issuer supports that; closing it means starting over at the next renewal.

How we test

13 cards went through a live YouTube Premium checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
