Which Virtual Card Works for Sephora US?
Start with Genome, then Bybit Card, Crypto.com Card. Both cleared Sephora US on the first attempt in our September run.
Our September pass on Sephora US covered 12 virtual cards. 10 of them survived the billing-address check and the 3-D Secure prompt. The rest did not.
Why Sephora US turns your card down
A card picked at random off a marketplace will fail Sephora US roughly half the time. The BIN range matters more than the balance sitting on the card.

The three we would actually use
- Genome is the cheapest route we found: Virtual card 1 EUR (first 10); 10 EUR f… to issue, Non-Genome card top-up 3%… on funding, and it cleared on the first attempt.
- Bybit Card is the one we would actually keep. Free up front, no top-up fee on top-ups, and the 3DS flow does not demand a phone number you do not have.
- Crypto.com Card is not the cheapest on the list, but it was the most consistent across three separate test runs. That counts for more than a dollar of savings.
Paying Sephora US with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
All 3 ask for an ID before the first card exists. The check is automated and usually clears in minutes. Turn on 2FA before you fund anything.
-
2
Load a small balance
Two ways in: crypto, which is instant, or a bank transfer, which is cheaper and slower. Start with a single month and see it clear. Genome charges Non-Genome card top-up 3%… per top-up.
-
3
Create the card
One account will hold several cards, so give Sephora US its own and leave the rest alone. Cap it near the plan price and lock it to this merchant.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
Sephora US checks the address. Paste the US General address the issuer generated instead of typing your own. One transposed digit is enough to fail it.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
The OTP lands in the issuer app. Approve it, then check the account, because a charge can sit in pending after the bank has already said yes.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (Crypto.com Card issues a US General address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Virtual BIN blocked. Some acquirers maintain a blocklist of well-known virtual ranges. Switching issuer usually clears it.
- Geo mismatch. Signing up in one country and paying with a card from another is the fastest route to a manual review.
- Three declines in a row. Most checkouts lock the payment method after three failures. Change the card instead of pressing the button again.
- Trial already claimed. If the free trial was used on that account before, the card gets charged immediately and often flagged as fraud.
BIN ranges worth trying on Sephora US
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
The ranges above carry issuing countries of their own. If a checkout refuses one region, the same card family often exists out of another, and the country pages group what we have tested.

Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on Sephora US?
In our tests, yes. We ran 12 cards against it in September and the 10 below are the ones that went through. Failures were almost all range blocks rather than balance problems, and 211 issuers in our database carry a positive flag for this merchant.
Why is my normal bank card declined by Sephora US?
It comes down to where the card was issued. Sephora US bills through an overseas acquirer, and that acquirer compares the card's country with your account region before the charge ever reaches your bank. It is a region rule, not a credit decision, which is why you never get a fraud alert.
Which one is cheapest for Sephora US?
On our numbers Genome leads at 9.5 out of 10. The rest is down to top-up cost: waived top-up fees matter more than a lower issuance fee once you are past month one.
Can I use a card with no KYC for Sephora US?
One of the 10 cards above is listed as No KYC: Pikabao. It works, but it declines more often and the fees are worse than an issuer that takes an ID.
What does Sephora US cost in total?
Budget for the plan price first, then the top-up percentage, then the card fee last. Of the 10 cards above, 5 charge nothing to issue.
Do I have to keep the card open between Sephora US renewals?
It is easier to leave it open, or frozen, than to close it. Closing cannot be undone, and a lapsed renewal is usually more hassle than the card sitting idle.
How we test
12 cards went through a live Sephora US checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
