Affirm Card & Virtual Card
Affirm runs a debit card you can pay in instalments at checkout, plus a virtual card for one-off online purchases. Both pull from your linked bank account rather than extending classic credit.
Apply in the Affirm app, verify your bank, and add the card to your phone wallet to use it in store. The virtual card is best for single online purchases where you want pay-later terms.
How to apply for Affirm
Download the Affirm app, create an account, and link a bank account or debit card for repayment. Approval is a soft check; once approved, the Affirm Card appears in the app and can be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Card vs virtual card
The Affirm Card is a physical debit card you can also use in Apple Pay and Google Pay. The virtual card is a one-time number the app generates for a specific online purchase, handy when a merchant is not in the app pay-later list.
Using Affirm in store
Add the Affirm Card to your phone wallet, then tap to pay at checkout. At supported sellers you can choose to pay in full or split into instalments right there. Where the terminal does not support the Affirm flow, it still works as a normal debit tap because it draws from your linked account.
Can you use it anywhere?
The card is a debit card on the Visa or Discover network, so it is accepted wherever that network is taken. "Anywhere" still means the merchant must accept the network and not block prepaid-style cards; some rent and billers do.
Paying rent and bills
Affirm can be used at some rent portals and billers that accept cards, but many rent payments are flagged as cash-equivalent and may be declined or carry a fee. For a biller not in the app, generate a virtual card and enter it at checkout, then pick pay-later if offered. Not every biller qualifies for instalments.
Paying Affirm with a credit card
You cannot normally pay an Affirm balance with a credit card; repayments come from your linked bank or debit account. Offers that say "pay Affirm with a credit card" route through a third party and usually add a fee - avoid them.
How Affirm compares to a virtual card
Affirm is a spend-now-pay-later debit product, not a privacy virtual card. If your goal is to keep a merchant from seeing your real card number, a disposable virtual card from a provider we track is the closer fit. See the brand comparison pages for head-to-head clear rates.
