Getting DeepL Pro to Accept a Virtual Card
Revolut, Starling Bank, Bybit Card. If the first one trips the AVS check, move to the next instead of retrying the same card.
Most people land here after three or four failed attempts on DeepL Pro. We ran 22 cards so you do not have to repeat the experiment yourself.
Why DeepL Pro turns your card down
DeepL Pro tightened its card checks through 2025 and again this year. Cards that worked for people two years ago frequently do not work now.

The three we would actually use
- Take Revolut if you want the lowest issuance cost (Free). Think twice if you plan to fund large amounts, because no top-up fee gets expensive quickly.
- We like Starling Bank mainly for the funding side. no top-up fee per top-up adds up if you pay monthly, but it is still the lowest of the cards that worked.
- Bybit Card is the cheapest route we found: Free to issue, no top-up fee on funding, and it cleared on the first attempt.
Paying DeepL Pro with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
Have an ID ready; all 3 want one before they will issue. The check runs automatically. Set up 2FA while you wait, not once money is on the card.
-
2
Load a small balance
USDT and bank transfer both work. Crypto lands in minutes; a transfer is cheaper but can sit overnight. Load one month first.
-
3
Create the card
Multiple cards per account, so keep DeepL Pro on a dedicated one. Lock it to the merchant and cap the spend. Both take seconds and neither costs anything.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
DeepL Pro checks the address. Paste the Global address the issuer generated instead of typing your own. One transposed digit is enough to fail it.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
The OTP lands in the issuer app. Approve it, then check the account, because a charge can sit in pending after the bank has already said yes.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (Revolut issues a Global address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Spend limit too tight. If the cap sits below the plan price plus the conversion spread, the authorisation comes back as insufficient rather than blocked.
- Card left frozen from the last test. Issuers sometimes freeze a card after unusual activity and never tell you. Check the app before blaming the merchant.
- Virtual BIN blocked. Some acquirers maintain a blocklist of well-known virtual ranges. Switching issuer usually clears it.
- Geo mismatch. Signing up in one country and paying with a card from another is the fastest route to a manual review.
BIN ranges worth trying on DeepL Pro
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
Every range above is tied to an issuing country. When a merchant turns one region away, the same brand frequently issues from a second one — the country pages below collect those.
Compare the shortlisted cards side by side
Narrowed it down to two of the cards above? These head-to-head pages put their issuance fee, top-up fee, KYC tier and the merchants we test into one table, so the call is easier to make.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on DeepL Pro?
Yes. Of the 22 cards we put at it in September, 10 cleared. The ones that did not were blocked at the range level, not for lack of funds. 58 issuers we track carry a positive flag here.
Why is my normal bank card declined by DeepL Pro?
Region, mostly. DeepL Pro routes through an acquirer outside your home market, and that acquirer checks the card's issuing country against your account region first. Your bank never sees the charge, so nothing shows up as fraud on your side.
Which one is cheapest for DeepL Pro?
Revolut comes out on top at 9.8 out of 10. After that it depends on how you fund the card. A free top-up beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you keep it running past the first month.
Can I use a card with no KYC for DeepL Pro?
Every card on this page asks for something. Revolut, Bybit Card, Privacy.com, Chime stop at an ID, with no address documents, which is usually enough for a subscription.
What does DeepL Pro cost in total?
Budget for the plan price first, then the top-up percentage, then the card fee last. Of the 10 cards above, 6 charge nothing to issue.
Do I have to keep the card open between DeepL Pro renewals?
It is easier to leave it open, or frozen, than to close it. Closing cannot be undone, and a lapsed renewal is usually more hassle than the card sitting idle.
How we test
22 cards went through a live DeepL Pro checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
