Virtual Credit Cards That Work on Etsy
Best result for us: Chime, Genome, Bybit Card. Two of the three also passed a renewal charge four weeks later.
Most people land here after three or four failed attempts on Etsy. We ran 31 cards so you do not have to repeat the experiment yourself.
Why Etsy turns your card down
Your bank is not blocking anything, the merchant is. Etsy sees a card range it does not like and issues a soft decline before the authorization ever reaches your issuer. That is why you get no fraud alert and no explanation.

The three we would actually use
- Chime is the cheapest route we found: Free to issue, no top-up fee on funding, and it cleared on the first attempt.
- Genome: Virtual card 1 EUR (first 10); 10 EUR f… to open, Non-Genome card top-up 3%… to fund. Boring, cheap, and it passed every retry we threw at it.
- Bybit Card is not the cheapest on the list, but it was the most consistent across three separate test runs. That counts for more than a dollar of savings.
Paying Etsy with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
Every card here wants an ID up front. It is an automated check and rarely takes more than a few minutes. Do 2FA before the first deposit, not after.
-
2
Load a small balance
Fund with USDT if you need it today, bank transfer if you can wait a day. One month is plenty to prove the card works.
-
3
Create the card
One account will hold several cards, so give Etsy its own and leave the rest alone. Cap it near the plan price and lock it to this merchant.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
Etsy checks the address. Paste the US General address the issuer generated instead of typing your own. One transposed digit is enough to fail it.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
Answer the 3-D Secure challenge, then verify the subscription is live rather than trusting the success screen. Pending charges do happen.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (Chime issues a US General address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Spend limit too tight. If the cap sits below the plan price plus the conversion spread, the authorisation comes back as insufficient rather than blocked.
- Card left frozen from the last test. Issuers sometimes freeze a card after unusual activity and never tell you. Check the app before blaming the merchant.
- Virtual BIN blocked. Some acquirers maintain a blocklist of well-known virtual ranges. Switching issuer usually clears it.
- Geo mismatch. Signing up in one country and paying with a card from another is the fastest route to a manual review.
BIN ranges worth trying on Etsy
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
The ranges above carry issuing countries of their own. If a checkout refuses one region, the same card family often exists out of another, and the country pages group what we have tested.
Compare the shortlisted cards side by side
If two cards on this page look close, open the matchup below. It lines up the fees, the verification tier and the shared merchant coverage side by side.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on Etsy?
In our tests, yes. We ran 31 cards against it in September and the 10 below are the ones that went through. Failures were almost all range blocks rather than balance problems, and 211 issuers in our database carry a positive flag for this merchant.
Why is my normal bank card declined by Etsy?
Region, mostly. Etsy routes through an acquirer outside your home market, and that acquirer checks the card's issuing country against your account region first. Your bank never sees the charge, so nothing shows up as fraud on your side.
Which one is cheapest for Etsy?
Chime scores highest here at 9.7/10. Past that, the funding route decides it, because a card with free top-ups beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you reload twice.
Can I use a card with no KYC for Etsy?
2 of the 10 cards above are listed as No KYC: Pikabao, VCard. They work, but they decline more often and the fees are worse than an issuer that takes an ID.
What does Etsy cost in total?
The card fee is the smallest part. What you actually pay is a top-up charge on every reload plus the Etsy plan. 4 of the 10 cards here skip the issuance fee entirely.
Do I have to keep the card open between Etsy renewals?
It is easier to leave it open, or frozen, than to close it. Closing cannot be undone, and a lapsed renewal is usually more hassle than the card sitting idle.
How we test
31 cards went through a live Etsy checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
