Which Virtual Card Works for Xbox Live?
Best result for us: Bleap, Paycek, COCA. Two of the three also passed a renewal charge four weeks later.
Xbox Live blocks most mainland-issued cards outright. We pushed 32 virtual cards through its checkout in September and kept the 10 that actually cleared.
Why Xbox Live turns your card down
A card picked at random off a marketplace will fail Xbox Live roughly half the time. The BIN range matters more than the balance sitting on the card.

10 of the 211 issuers we track carry a positive flag for Xbox Live. Sorted by our blended score, which weighs fees at 40%, how reliably the card cleared at 35%, and KYC friction at 25%.

The three we would actually use
- Bleap is the cheapest route we found: $0 to issue, 0% on funding, and it cleared on the first attempt.
- Paycek scored 9.3/10. Nothing about it is remarkable except that it kept working when others stopped.
- Take COCA if you want the lowest issuance cost (Free). Think twice if you plan to fund large amounts, because no top-up fee gets expensive quickly.
Paying Xbox Live with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
Verification is uneven across these 3: some want only an ID, others want proof of address too. Choose the tier you are comfortable with and enable 2FA before funding.
-
2
Load a small balance
Crypto is the way in here. USDT arrives in minutes, which matters if the renewal is today. Put in one month's worth and watch it clear first. Bleap charges 0% per top-up.
-
3
Create the card
You can spin up more than one card here, which is worth doing: Xbox Live gets its own, everything else stays off it. Set the limit just above the plan price.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
Nothing is compared against an address on this one. Fill in the card details, paste them rather than typing, and move on.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
The OTP lands in the issuer app. Approve it, then check the account, because a charge can sit in pending after the bank has already said yes.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Virtual BIN blocked. Some acquirers maintain a blocklist of well-known virtual ranges. Switching issuer usually clears it.
- Geo mismatch. Signing up in one country and paying with a card from another is the fastest route to a manual review.
- Three declines in a row. Most checkouts lock the payment method after three failures. Change the card instead of pressing the button again.
- Trial already claimed. If the free trial was used on that account before, the card gets charged immediately and often flagged as fraud.
- Debit range, credit-only acquirer. A handful of processors refuse debit BINs outright, before any balance check runs. Try a credit range from the table.
BIN ranges worth trying on Xbox Live
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
The ranges above carry issuing countries of their own. If a checkout refuses one region, the same card family often exists out of another, and the country pages group what we have tested.
Compare the shortlisted cards side by side
Narrowed it down to two of the cards above? These head-to-head pages put their issuance fee, top-up fee, KYC tier and the merchants we test into one table, so the call is easier to make.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on Xbox Live?
In our tests, yes. We ran 32 cards against it in September and the 10 below are the ones that went through. Failures were almost all range blocks rather than balance problems, and 211 issuers in our database carry a positive flag for this merchant.
Why is my normal bank card declined by Xbox Live?
Your bank is not rejecting anything. Xbox Live uses an overseas acquirer that screens the card's country against your account region up front. The charge is dropped before it reaches your bank, which is why there is no alert to appeal.
Which one is cheapest for Xbox Live?
Bleap comes out on top at 9.8 out of 10. After that it depends on how you fund the card. A free top-up beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you keep it running past the first month.
Can I use a card with no KYC for Xbox Live?
One of the 10 cards above is listed as No KYC: Paycek. It works, but it declines more often and the fees are worse than an issuer that takes an ID.
What does Xbox Live cost in total?
The card fee is the smallest part. What you actually pay is a top-up charge on every reload plus the Xbox Live plan. 6 of the 10 cards here skip the issuance fee entirely.
Do I have to keep the card open between Xbox Live renewals?
Only if you want the renewal to clear. Where the issuer allows it, freeze the card rather than closing it, then unfreeze a day before the renewal date. A closed card cannot be brought back.
How we test
32 cards went through a live Xbox Live checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
