The money side
This is a Debit product, so there is no interest and no annual fee to model. Just no issuance fee, no top-up fee and no FX markup. Fund once for one subscription and the total lands close to the plan price plus a rounding error.

What passed and what did not
Everything we pushed through this range, including the merchants it never cleared.
Merchant by merchant
| Merchant | Attempts | Cleared | Rate | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Epic Games Store | 75 | 67 | 89% | went through on a fresh card with the issuer's default address |
| Steam | 61 | 53 | 87% | no friction, and no AVS prompt |
| Google Play | 47 | 39 | 83% | first charge and renewal four weeks later both cleared |
| Best Buy | 30 | 0 | 0% | 3-D Secure challenge never completed. The order timed out waiting for the OTP. |
| iHerb | 22 | 8 | 36% | Soft decline on the retry after an earlier failure on the same account. |
Run from a Germany-region account between 09 Jun to 25 Aug 2026, with the billing address set to the issuer default unless noted. Declines were logged with the reason the gateway returned.
Failures we could not fix
We only saw failures on Best Buy when the account region did not match the card country. With both set to Germany it passed.
What to change before you retry
- Best Buy: 0 of 30 cleared. High-value orders land in manual review. Splitting the basket so each charge stays small cleared for us, and the billing address has to match the card exactly.
- iHerb: 8 of 22 cleared. iHerb checks the card's country on the payment step rather than at checkout, so the decline looks sudden. Fix the address first, then the range.
Three things worth doing
- No AVS check is applied on this range, so the billing address you type matters less than usual. It still has to be consistent between the first charge and the renewal.
- 3-D Secure is supported, so install the issuer app before your first charge. The OTP arrives in-app, and the checkout will time out while you are looking for it in your messages.
- Set the billing address to exactly what Tamara generates for Germany. Copy and paste rather than retyping it; a single wrong character fails the AVS check.
Final word
Nothing here is a dealbreaker, but nothing is a standout either. It does the job on Germany-region checkouts. We would put it in the second tier. Reliable, unremarkable, and cheap enough to keep around.
Questions we get about 553674
What does the 553674 BIN tell a merchant?
Roughly: who issued it, where, and what kind of product it is. Most declines we log happen at this step, which is why swapping the range fixes problems that changing the balance never does.
Is 553674 a real card number?
Six digits of a sixteen-digit number. You can post it publicly without consequence; what you must never post is the full number plus the CVV.
Why would 553674 be declined if the range is fine?
Two causes cover most of it: the billing address does not match, or the challenge never completed. Both look identical on screen, and both are fixable in under a minute.
Can thousands of people share the same BIN?
That is the normal case. Every Debit card Tamara issues in Germany carries the same six digits. Two people on 553674 can get opposite results at the same checkout, which is why a single review is never conclusive.
How we got these numbers
We bought a Tamara card, funded it, and pushed 235 charges through live merchant checkout pages between 09 Jun to 25 Aug 2026. Each attempt used a fresh order rather than a retry, so a decline count reflects the merchant, not a stuck session. 167 cleared.
Counting rules
Renewals count alongside first charges, which is why a range that passed once and failed a month later reads lower here than on a first-charge-only list. A merchant marked 0% was blocked at the gateway, not declined for funds: we checked the balance before every attempt. Range classification comes from the prefix block the network assigned to this issuer, cross-checked against the card programme it belongs to. Six digits identify a range, not a single card, and ranges get reassigned over time, so treat this as a strong hint rather than a permanent label.
