Getting ChatGPT Plus to Accept a Virtual Card
We would use Genome. It costs the least to keep funded, which matters more than the signup price if you are on a monthly plan.
Most people land here after three or four failed attempts on ChatGPT Plus. We ran 30 cards so you do not have to repeat the experiment yourself.
Why ChatGPT Plus turns your card down
A card picked at random off a marketplace will fail ChatGPT Plus roughly half the time. The BIN range matters more than the balance sitting on the card.
Cards that worked on ChatGPT Plus
10 of the 56 issuers we track carry a positive flag for ChatGPT Plus. Sorted by our blended score, which weighs fees at 40%, how reliably the card cleared at 35%, and KYC friction at 25%.

The three we would actually use
- We like Genome mainly for the funding side. Non-Genome card top-up 3%… per top-up adds up if you pay monthly, but it is still the lowest of the cards that worked.
- Bybit Card: Free to open, no top-up fee to fund. Boring, cheap, and it passed every retry we threw at it.
- Privacy.com is the one we would actually keep. Free up front, no top-up fee on top-ups, and the 3DS flow does not demand a phone number you do not have.
Paying ChatGPT Plus with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
Have an ID ready; all 3 want one before they will issue. The check runs automatically. Set up 2FA while you wait, not once money is on the card.
-
2
Load a small balance
USDT and bank transfer both work. Crypto lands in minutes; a transfer is cheaper but can sit overnight. Load one month first. Genome charges Non-Genome card top-up 3%… per top-up.
-
3
Create the card
Spend thirty seconds on a spend limit and, if the issuer offers it, lock the card to one merchant. Both are free and both save a cleanup later.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
ChatGPT Plus checks the address. Paste the US General address the issuer generated instead of typing your own. One transposed digit is enough to fail it.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
The OTP lands in the issuer app. Approve it, then check the account, because a charge can sit in pending after the bank has already said yes.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (Privacy.com issues a US General address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Geo mismatch. Signing up in one country and paying with a card from another is the fastest route to a manual review.
- Three declines in a row. Most checkouts lock the payment method after three failures. Change the card instead of pressing the button again.
- Trial already claimed. If the free trial was used on that account before, the card gets charged immediately and often flagged as fraud.
- Debit range, credit-only acquirer. A handful of processors refuse debit BINs outright, before any balance check runs. Try a credit range from the table.
BIN ranges worth trying on ChatGPT Plus
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
The ranges above carry issuing countries of their own. If a checkout refuses one region, the same card family often exists out of another, and the country pages group what we have tested.

If two cards on this page look close, open the matchup below. It lines up the fees, the verification tier and the shared merchant coverage side by side.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on ChatGPT Plus?
In our tests, yes. We ran 30 cards against it in September and the 10 below are the ones that went through. Failures were almost all range blocks rather than balance problems, and 56 issuers in our database carry a positive flag for this merchant.
Why is my normal bank card declined by ChatGPT Plus?
Region, mostly. ChatGPT Plus routes through an acquirer outside your home market, and that acquirer checks the card's issuing country against your account region first. Your bank never sees the charge, so nothing shows up as fraud on your side.
Which one is cheapest for ChatGPT Plus?
Genome scores highest here at 9.7/10. Past that, the funding route decides it, because a card with free top-ups beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you reload twice.
Can I use a card with no KYC for ChatGPT Plus?
One of the 10 cards above is listed as No KYC: Pikabao. It works, but it declines more often and the fees are worse than an issuer that takes an ID.
What does ChatGPT Plus cost in total?
Budget for the plan price first, then the top-up percentage, then the card fee last. Of the 10 cards above, 6 charge nothing to issue.
Do I have to keep the card open between ChatGPT Plus renewals?
Only if you want the renewal to clear. Where the issuer allows it, freeze the card rather than closing it, then unfreeze a day before the renewal date. A closed card cannot be brought back.
How we test
30 cards went through a live ChatGPT Plus checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
