Paying for GOAT With a Virtual Card: What Actually Passes
We would use Genome. It costs the least to keep funded, which matters more than the signup price if you are on a monthly plan.
You need a card whose BIN country matches the region on your GOAT account. That is the whole trick. Fees and the rest are below.
Why GOAT turns your card down
The decline is a BIN mismatch. GOAT bills through an overseas acquirer, and that acquirer compares three things: the country your card was issued in, the billing address on file, and the country your account is registered in. Two out of three is not enough.
Cards that worked on GOAT
10 of the 211 issuers we track carry a positive flag for GOAT. Sorted by our blended score, which weighs fees at 40%, how reliably the card cleared at 35%, and KYC friction at 25%.

The three we would actually use
- We had Genome fail once, on a Sunday, then succeed on the retry. Worth knowing before you write it off.
- Chime is not the cheapest on the list, but it was the most consistent across three separate test runs. That counts for more than a dollar of savings.
- Take Revolut if you want the lowest issuance cost (Free). Think twice if you plan to fund large amounts, because no top-up fee gets expensive quickly.
Paying GOAT with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
All 3 ask for an ID before the first card exists. The check is automated and usually clears in minutes. Turn on 2FA before you fund anything.
-
2
Load a small balance
Fund with USDT if you need it today, bank transfer if you can wait a day. One month is plenty to prove the card works. Genome charges Non-Genome card top-up 3%… per top-up.
-
3
Create the card
You can spin up more than one card here, which is worth doing: GOAT gets its own, everything else stays off it. Set the limit just above the plan price.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
There is an address check. Chime issues a US General address. Paste that one, because AVS fails on a single wrong character.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
Answer the 3-D Secure challenge, then verify the subscription is live rather than trusting the success screen. Pending charges do happen.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (Chime issues a US General address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Three declines in a row. Most checkouts lock the payment method after three failures. Change the card instead of pressing the button again.
- Trial already claimed. If the free trial was used on that account before, the card gets charged immediately and often flagged as fraud.
- Debit range, credit-only acquirer. A handful of processors refuse debit BINs outright, before any balance check runs. Try a credit range from the table.
- Monthly cap reached. Cards with a hard monthly limit decline once it is used up, and the message the merchant shows is identical to a fraud block.
BIN ranges worth trying on GOAT
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
The ranges above carry issuing countries of their own. If a checkout refuses one region, the same card family often exists out of another, and the country pages group what we have tested.
Compare the shortlisted cards side by side
Down to two of them? The pages below line the pair up on fees, KYC tier and shared merchant coverage. That is usually enough to settle it.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on GOAT?
In our tests, yes. We ran 17 cards against it in September and the 10 below are the ones that went through. Failures were almost all range blocks rather than balance problems, and 211 issuers in our database carry a positive flag for this merchant.
Why is my normal bank card declined by GOAT?
It comes down to where the card was issued. GOAT bills through an overseas acquirer, and that acquirer compares the card's country with your account region before the charge ever reaches your bank. It is a region rule, not a credit decision, which is why you never get a fraud alert.
Which one is cheapest for GOAT?
Genome scores highest here at 9.7/10. Past that, the funding route decides it, because a card with free top-ups beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you reload twice.
Can I use a card with no KYC for GOAT?
One of the 10 cards above is listed as No KYC: Pikabao. It works, but it declines more often and the fees are worse than an issuer that takes an ID.
What does GOAT cost in total?
The card fee is the smallest part. What you actually pay is a top-up charge on every reload plus the GOAT plan. 6 of the 10 cards here skip the issuance fee entirely.
Do I have to keep the card open between GOAT renewals?
It is easier to leave it open, or frozen, than to close it. Closing cannot be undone, and a lapsed renewal is usually more hassle than the card sitting idle.
How we test
17 cards went through a live GOAT checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
