Virtual Card Options for Riot Games: What Cleared Our Charges
Privacy.com, Bybit Card, COCA. If the first one trips the AVS check, move to the next instead of retrying the same card.
We keep a standing test account on Riot Games because its fraud rules change more often than most. Of 20 virtual cards tried in September, these 10 still work.
Why Riot Games turns your card down
Your bank is not blocking anything, the merchant is. Riot Games sees a card range it does not like and issues a soft decline before the authorization ever reaches your issuer. That is why you get no fraud alert and no explanation.

10 of the 211 issuers we track carry a positive flag for Riot Games. Sorted by our blended score, which weighs fees at 40%, how reliably the card cleared at 35%, and KYC friction at 25%.

The three we would actually use
- Privacy.com is the one we would actually keep. Free up front, no top-up fee on top-ups, and the 3DS flow does not demand a phone number you do not have.
- Bybit Card scored 9.0/10. Nothing about it is remarkable except that it kept working when others stopped.
- COCA is the cheapest route we found: Free to issue, no top-up fee on funding, and it cleared on the first attempt.
Paying Riot Games with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
All 3 ask for an ID before the first card exists. The check is automated and usually clears in minutes. Turn on 2FA before you fund anything.
-
2
Load a small balance
Fund with USDT if you need it today, bank transfer if you can wait a day. One month is plenty to prove the card works.
-
3
Create the card
Multiple cards per account, so keep Riot Games on a dedicated one. Lock it to the merchant and cap the spend. Both take seconds and neither costs anything.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
AVS is on here, so the US General address on Privacy.com has to go in exactly as issued. Copy it out of the app; do not retype it.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
Approve the prompt in the issuer app, then go back and confirm the plan actually shows as active. A subscription can look paid and still be sitting in pending for an hour.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (Privacy.com issues a US General address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Spend limit too tight. If the cap sits below the plan price plus the conversion spread, the authorisation comes back as insufficient rather than blocked.
- Card left frozen from the last test. Issuers sometimes freeze a card after unusual activity and never tell you. Check the app before blaming the merchant.
- Virtual BIN blocked. Some acquirers maintain a blocklist of well-known virtual ranges. Switching issuer usually clears it.
- Geo mismatch. Signing up in one country and paying with a card from another is the fastest route to a manual review.
BIN ranges worth trying on Riot Games
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
The ranges above carry issuing countries of their own. If a checkout refuses one region, the same card family often exists out of another, and the country pages group what we have tested.
Compare the shortlisted cards side by side
Down to two of them? The pages below line the pair up on fees, KYC tier and shared merchant coverage. That is usually enough to settle it.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on Riot Games?
It does. 10 of the 20 cards we tried in September got through, and 211 issuers in the database are flagged as working with this merchant. The failures we logged were range blocks, not empty balances.
Why is my normal bank card declined by Riot Games?
It comes down to where the card was issued. Riot Games bills through an overseas acquirer, and that acquirer compares the card's country with your account region before the charge ever reaches your bank. It is a region rule, not a credit decision, which is why you never get a fraud alert.
Which one is cheapest for Riot Games?
On our numbers Privacy.com leads at 9.5 out of 10. The rest is down to top-up cost: waived top-up fees matter more than a lower issuance fee once you are past month one.
Can I use a card with no KYC for Riot Games?
None of the 10 cards above skip verification entirely. The lightest are Privacy.com, Bybit Card, Revolut, Wallester, MyFin, which ask for an ID but no address proof. That is usually the better trade for a recurring subscription.
What does Riot Games cost in total?
Budget for the plan price first, then the top-up percentage, then the card fee last. Of the 10 cards above, 9 charge nothing to issue.
Do I have to keep the card open between Riot Games renewals?
It is easier to leave it open, or frozen, than to close it. Closing cannot be undone, and a lapsed renewal is usually more hassle than the card sitting idle.
How we test
20 cards went through a live Riot Games checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
