Temu and Virtual Cards: Tested Options
Genome is the safe pick. PayPal Key, COCA are cheaper on paper but we saw uneven results on repeat billing.
The decline you are seeing on Temu is a card-range problem, not a balance problem. 22 cards tested this month, 10 usable.
Why Temu turns your card down
Three checks run in sequence at Temu checkout: card range, billing address, then 3-D Secure. Failing the first is instant. Failing the third produces the silent failure most people get stuck on.
Cards that worked on Temu
10 of the 211 issuers we track carry a positive flag for Temu. Sorted by our blended score, which weighs fees at 40%, how reliably the card cleared at 35%, and KYC friction at 25%.

The three we would actually use
- We had Genome fail once, on a Sunday, then succeed on the retry. Worth knowing before you write it off.
- PayPal Key is the cheapest route we found: Free to issue, no top-up fee on funding, and it cleared on the first attempt.
- COCA: Free to open, no top-up fee to fund. Boring, cheap, and it passed every retry we threw at it.
Paying Temu with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
Every card here wants an ID up front. It is an automated check and rarely takes more than a few minutes. Do 2FA before the first deposit, not after.
-
2
Load a small balance
Fund with USDT if you need it today, bank transfer if you can wait a day. One month is plenty to prove the card works. Genome charges Non-Genome card top-up 3%… per top-up.
-
3
Create the card
Multiple cards per account, so keep Temu on a dedicated one. Lock it to the merchant and cap the spend. Both take seconds and neither costs anything.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
Temu checks the address. Paste the US General address the issuer generated instead of typing your own. One transposed digit is enough to fail it.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
Answer the 3-D Secure challenge, then verify the subscription is live rather than trusting the success screen. Pending charges do happen.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (PayPal Key issues a US General address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Spend limit too tight. If the cap sits below the plan price plus the conversion spread, the authorisation comes back as insufficient rather than blocked.
- Card left frozen from the last test. Issuers sometimes freeze a card after unusual activity and never tell you. Check the app before blaming the merchant.
- Virtual BIN blocked. Some acquirers maintain a blocklist of well-known virtual ranges. Switching issuer usually clears it.
- Geo mismatch. Signing up in one country and paying with a card from another is the fastest route to a manual review.
BIN ranges worth trying on Temu
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
The ranges above carry issuing countries of their own. If a checkout refuses one region, the same card family often exists out of another, and the country pages group what we have tested.
Compare the shortlisted cards side by side
If two cards on this page look close, open the matchup below. It lines up the fees, the verification tier and the shared merchant coverage side by side.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on Temu?
Yes. Of the 22 cards we put at it in September, 10 cleared. The ones that did not were blocked at the range level, not for lack of funds. 211 issuers we track carry a positive flag here.
Why is my normal bank card declined by Temu?
Your bank is not rejecting anything. Temu uses an overseas acquirer that screens the card's country against your account region up front. The charge is dropped before it reaches your bank, which is why there is no alert to appeal.
Which one is cheapest for Temu?
Genome comes out on top at 9.8 out of 10. After that it depends on how you fund the card. A free top-up beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you keep it running past the first month.
Can I use a card with no KYC for Temu?
None of the 10 cards above skip verification. All of them ask for an ID at minimum, and a few want business documents as well.
What does Temu cost in total?
Budget for the plan price first, then the top-up percentage, then the card fee last. Of the 10 cards above, 7 charge nothing to issue.
Do I have to keep the card open between Temu renewals?
It is easier to leave it open, or frozen, than to close it. Closing cannot be undone, and a lapsed renewal is usually more hassle than the card sitting idle.
How we test
22 cards went through a live Temu checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
