Best Virtual Cards for Airbnb
We would use Bleap. It costs the least to keep funded, which matters more than the signup price if you are on a monthly plan.
Airbnb is one of the harder checkouts we test. Not because of the price, but because it re-verifies the card on every renewal. Here is what held up in September.
Why Airbnb turns your card down
A card picked at random off a marketplace will fail Airbnb roughly half the time. The BIN range matters more than the balance sitting on the card.
Cards that worked on Airbnb
10 of the 211 issuers we track carry a positive flag for Airbnb. Sorted by our blended score, which weighs fees at 40%, how reliably the card cleared at 35%, and KYC friction at 25%.

The three we would actually use
- Bleap is not the cheapest on the list, but it was the most consistent across three separate test runs. That counts for more than a dollar of savings.
- Chime is not the cheapest on the list, but it was the most consistent across three separate test runs. That counts for more than a dollar of savings.
- Privacy.com scored 9.0/10. Nothing about it is remarkable except that it kept working when others stopped.
Paying Airbnb with a virtual card, start to finish
-
1
Open the account
Every card here wants an ID up front. It is an automated check and rarely takes more than a few minutes. Do 2FA before the first deposit, not after.
-
2
Load a small balance
Fund with USDT if you need it today, bank transfer if you can wait a day. One month is plenty to prove the card works. Bleap charges 0% per top-up.
-
3
Create the card
One account will hold several cards, so give Airbnb its own and leave the rest alone. Cap it near the plan price and lock it to this merchant.
-
4
Enter the details at checkout
AVS is on here, so the US General address on Chime has to go in exactly as issued. Copy it out of the app; do not retype it.
-
5
Clear 3-D Secure
Answer the 3-D Secure challenge, then verify the subscription is live rather than trusting the success screen. Pending charges do happen.
If it still will not go through
Between them these cover almost every failed attempt we have logged.
- Billing address mismatch (Chime issues a US General address). AVS compares what you type against the address on file, and it fails on a single transposed digit. Paste it instead of retyping.
- Monthly cap reached. Cards with a hard monthly limit decline once it is used up, and the message the merchant shows is identical to a fraud block.
- Merchant switched acquirer. When a platform changes processor, ranges that cleared last month start failing with nothing changed on your side. Re-run the card before assuming it is dead.
- Spend limit too tight. If the cap sits below the plan price plus the conversion spread, the authorisation comes back as insufficient rather than blocked.
- Card left frozen from the last test. Issuers sometimes freeze a card after unusual activity and never tell you. Check the app before blaming the merchant.
BIN ranges worth trying on Airbnb
Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.
Where these cards are issued
Issuing country matters as much as the brand here. Where one region is refused, another is often accepted, so these pages group what we have tested by where the card was issued.
Compare the shortlisted cards side by side
Down to two of them? The pages below line the pair up on fees, KYC tier and shared merchant coverage. That is usually enough to settle it.
Questions we get asked
Will a virtual card actually work on Airbnb?
Yes. Of the 32 cards we put at it in September, 10 cleared. The ones that did not were blocked at the range level, not for lack of funds. 211 issuers we track carry a positive flag here.
Why is my normal bank card declined by Airbnb?
Your bank is not rejecting anything. Airbnb uses an overseas acquirer that screens the card's country against your account region up front. The charge is dropped before it reaches your bank, which is why there is no alert to appeal.
Which one is cheapest for Airbnb?
Bleap scores highest here at 9.8/10. Past that, the funding route decides it, because a card with free top-ups beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you reload twice.
Can I use a card with no KYC for Airbnb?
One of the 10 cards above is listed as No KYC: Paycek. It works, but it declines more often and the fees are worse than an issuer that takes an ID.
What does Airbnb cost in total?
The card fee is the smallest part. What you actually pay is a top-up charge on every reload plus the Airbnb plan. 8 of the 10 cards here skip the issuance fee entirely.
Do I have to keep the card open between Airbnb renewals?
Only if you want the renewal to clear. Where the issuer allows it, freeze the card rather than closing it, then unfreeze a day before the renewal date. A closed card cannot be brought back.
How we test
32 cards went through a live Airbnb checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
