Virtual Cards for Leonardo.ai: Fees, KYC and Success Rates

What we would pick

Top three for September: Chime, Bleap, COCA. Chime came out ahead once issuance and funding fees were added up.

Leonardo.ai blocks most mainland-issued cards outright. We pushed 17 virtual cards through its checkout in September and kept the 10 that actually cleared.

Why Leonardo.ai turns your card down

Your bank is not blocking anything, the merchant is. Leonardo.ai sees a card range it does not like and issues a soft decline before the authorization ever reaches your issuer. That is why you get no fraud alert and no explanation.

Both fixes are on your side of the transaction: match the card's country to the region your Leonardo.ai account is registered in, and paste the issuer's billing address without editing it.

The three we would actually use

Paying Leonardo.ai with a virtual card, start to finish

  1. 1

    Open the account

All 3 ask for an ID before the first card exists. The check is automated and usually clears in minutes. Turn on 2FA before you fund anything.

  2. 2

    Load a small balance

USDT and bank transfer both work. Crypto lands in minutes; a transfer is cheaper but can sit overnight. Load one month first.

  3. 3

    Create the card

You can spin up more than one card here, which is worth doing: Leonardo.ai gets its own, everything else stays off it. Set the limit just above the plan price.

BIN ranges worth trying on Leonardo.ai

Each range has its own issuer, country and card type. If a merchant blocks one, move to another rather than retrying.

Where these cards are issued

Every range above is tied to an issuing country. When a merchant turns one region away, the same brand frequently issues from a second one — the country pages below collect those.

Narrowed it down to two of the cards above? These head-to-head pages put their issuance fee, top-up fee, KYC tier and the merchants we test into one table, so the call is easier to make.

Questions we get asked

Will a virtual card actually work on Leonardo.ai?

It does. 10 of the 17 cards we tried in September got through, and 58 issuers in the database are flagged as working with this merchant. The failures we logged were range blocks, not empty balances.

Why is my normal bank card declined by Leonardo.ai?

It comes down to where the card was issued. Leonardo.ai bills through an overseas acquirer, and that acquirer compares the card's country with your account region before the charge ever reaches your bank. It is a region rule, not a credit decision, which is why you never get a fraud alert.

Which one is cheapest for Leonardo.ai?

Chime comes out on top at 9.8 out of 10. After that it depends on how you fund the card. A free top-up beats a cheaper signup fee the moment you keep it running past the first month.

Can I use a card with no KYC for Leonardo.ai?

One of the 10 cards above is listed as No KYC: Pikabao. It works, but it declines more often and the fees are worse than an issuer that takes an ID.

What does Leonardo.ai cost in total?

Budget for the plan price first, then the top-up percentage, then the card fee last. Of the 10 cards above, 7 charge nothing to issue.

Do I have to keep the card open between Leonardo.ai renewals?

Only if you want the renewal to clear. Where the issuer allows it, freeze the card rather than closing it, then unfreeze a day before the renewal date. A closed card cannot be brought back.

How we test

17 cards went through a live Leonardo.ai checkout on a real account, and one only counts if the first charge clears and the renewal four weeks later clears too. Cards that pass the trial then fail on renewal get marked down rather than dropped. Fees come from the issuers' own pricing pages, re-checked monthly, and converted at the rate on the verification date when they are not in USD. The full protocol, including how we log declines, is on the methodology page.
